T O P I C R E V I E WRobert PearlmanSpacePatches.info has updated their website with the story behind the two Soyuz TMA-5 patches.----------------------------------------UPDATE: posted October 14, 2004 11:32 AM----------------------------------------Speaking with Alex Panchenko of USSR-AirSpace.com, he is the artist who designed the green TMA-5 patch described on SpacePatches.info. There are three different patches being worn or taken up in some form on this flight (as opposed to the usual two; expedition and a TMA patch). This time there is the Exp 10 patch, and two TMA designs? The offial supplier of the ones that went up are?:Exp 10: ABgreen TMA: Alex Panchenkoblack TMA: spaceview/spacepatchesAnd also, it was the wire version of both TMA patches that were taken up? Or only the ones work on the Sokols? Is this correct? So I know who to get them from :-) Thanks! Always an interesting story behind them.-------------------Benhttp://www.geocities.com/ovcolumbia/Robert Pearlman quote:Originally posted by Ben:The offial supplier of the ones that went up are?According to SpacePatches.info...Exp. 10 (as worn on the Sokol suits): Alex Panchenkogreen TMA (as only worn by Shargin): Alex Panchenkoblack TMA: didn't flyAB of course, produced the Exp. 10 patches for NASA and had this been a shuttle launch, there would have been several hundred of them on-board in the OFK.hoorenzAnd notice that the Russia Flag patch was also an Alex Panchenko wire patch, with gold-colored border. Since we (www.spacepatches.info) only provide information about patches "we" do not take any side over what is real or not...we have pages for both patches now on our site....---Jacques van OeneEditor: www.spacepatches.info Alex PanchenkoThere is no debates. And there is no TWO Official patches.Official emblem is only one and this patch was worn by Yuri Shargin. And millions could see on TV during launch.Same emblem was displayed during announcing of main team and during Press-Conference before flight. It was agree with crew to have made by myself wire variant of ISS-10 for Sharipov and Chiao, but for Shargin Soyuz TMA-5 (because Shargin had short Soyuz flight only). For NASA this original design was not provided.NASA only has one of proposed earlier emblem. As Official design can be considered if patch worn during flight and such only one.All other proposals may exist as souvenirs only.Deatils on patches for TMA-5/ISS-10 described on my site:http://www.ussr-airspace.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24_60&products_id=2317If any questions, please e-mail at apanchenko@earthlink.netBest regards,Alex http://www.ussr-airspace.com PhilipSharipov was wearing a white square-sized patch as well ...
